What is Creative Commons?
Creative Commons licenses help artists share music publicly with a standard set of permissions. Each license tells you what you can do (and what you must do) when using a track.
Common CC license types
- CC BY: You can use the track (even commercially) if you give proper attribution.
- CC BY-SA: Like CC BY, but derivatives must be shared under the same license.
- CC BY-ND: You can use it, but you can’t distribute modified versions.
- CC BY-NC: Non-commercial use only (commercial use requires separate permission).
- CC BY-NC-SA: Non-commercial + share-alike.
- CC BY-NC-ND: Non-commercial + no derivatives.
How to give attribution (simple template)
When required, use this format:
- Title — Artist
- Source (URL)
- License (e.g., CC BY 4.0)
- Changes (if you edited it)
Important notes
- Always verify the license on the source page before using a track.
- Some tracks may include additional restrictions from the creator.
- If you need commercial rights and the license is NC, contact the rightsholder.
